Final siren sounds on MDFNL campaigns
AFTER planning to extend its season into October, the Mininera and District Football Netball League has been forced to abandon its plans and cancel its season.

AFTER planning to extend its season into October, the Mininera and District Football Netball League has been forced to abandon its plans and cancel its season.
The league, which wanted to continue with a finals series up until October 9, became another casualty of Premier Daniel Andrews’ decision to allow community sport training to resume but without competition.
In a letter to clubs, president John Box confirmed the board had decided to finish its season as of last Friday following Andrews’ latest announcement.
“With the uncertainty of COVID and restrictions the board, with the netball, has decided to cancel the 2021 season with great sadness,” he said.
“As president of the Mininera and District Football League, this is one of the hardest decisions that I have been involved in.
“The greatest honour for any club is to play in finals, after a hard year of training, and not to have that opportunity is very sad.
“At this stage, six weeks out of football, is a long time to get back and going.”
Box paid tribute to the 12 member clubs of his league, football and netball executives and volunteers and supporters for their efforts in trying times.
“I would like to thank the support of all clubs both football and netball, at this difficult time,” he said.
“I thank the executives of the football and netball league for the many hours they have contributed to make decisions this season.
“I would like to thank the six junior sides who worked hard all year, travelling, and not have the opportunity to play finals. Thank you to all volunteers and supporters who have tirelessly worked hard for our clubs.
“Let’s hope that next year will be bigger and better.”
The board is set to meet this week to determine its plans for its league dinner, presentations and awards for its top teams.
