Finals action for Mortlake
MORTLAKE bowlers have enjoyed some finals action over this past week.
Weekend pennant results from the last round of the home and away season were as follows:
Mortlake Blue (div. 1) def. City Gold 57-53 (at home).
G Draffen def. B Collie 18-15; L Johnson lost to N Crisp 18-26 and D Grant def. G Davey 21-13.
Mortlake Blue finish second for the season and will play top of the table City Red at Port Fairy next Saturday.
Mortlake White (div. 2) lost to City White 35-87 (away).
J Tanner lost to P Symmons 12-26; A Kubik lost to P Cooke 13-27 and D Robertson lost to K Bell 10-34.
Mortlake White finished the season in sixth position.
Mortlake Gold (div. 4) lost to Timboon Brown 32-40 (away).
D Murray lost to N Page 10-26 and L O'Shannessy def. D Bedggood 22-14.
Mortlake Gold needed to win this match to make the four but have finished fifth for the season.
Division one selections for weekend pennant semi-final this Saturday:
Mortlake Blue (div. 1) play City Red at Port Fairy.
D Grant (s), C Goldsworthy, C Inverarity, P Beardsley; G Draffen (s), P Summerhayes, C Baxter, S Pierce (m); L Johnson (s), D McNicoll, R Draffen, K Johnson.

Due to the Total Fire Ban last Tuesday (Feb 13), midweek pennant results were:
For Tuesday social pennant, the last round of the home and away season was abandoned.
Mortlake is on top of the ladder after the home and away season and next week (weather permitting) should be the round-robin round before semi-finals are played in a fortnight.
Early word is that it will be against Camperdown Black but stay tuned for confirmation next week.
For those players who wish to play in the round-robin day, please let Ian or Max know ASAP.
For midweek pennant, the division three and four sides will have played on the reserve day which is Valentine’s Day, Wednesday February 14 at Warrnambool BC.
Results weren’t available before the newspaper deadline so stay tuned next week for all the semi-finals action.
Last Friday afternoon, Mortlake held a mixed triples tournament with around 60 players from all around the district and a little further away.
There were five games of six ends in total where one game was a bye.
At the end of the day, there were only two four-game winners and the runners-up for the day with four wins +23 shots were Jenny Toose, Geoff Toose and Colin Inverarity.
The winners for the day, which took an extraordinary bowl on the last end to take the win, with four wins +24 shots were Sandy McAllion, Greg Collins and George Draffen.
Congratulations to both teams and thanks to everyone who played last Friday.

Twilight bowls is now in full swing and we could always find a game for people who are interested in playing in a family-friendly environment.
