WITH just four rounds remaining, Camperdown still has a chance of playing finals football if things fall their way.

Now seventh, a game and a half out of the five – with Cobden in fifth and Port Fairy sixth – the Magpies have a relatively “winnable” run home after this weekend’s clash against the reigning premiers, Koroit.

The Magpies’ will face second-bottom side Portland next week before taking on Hamilton (ninth) and then Port Fairy (sixth) for the final round.

Round 14 proved a tough one for the Magpies, hosting neighbours the Cobden Bombers.

After a relatively even first quarter, which ended with less than a goal separating the two sides, the Bombers edged ahead in the second to go into the main break with a 21-point lead.

The Bombers extended their lead to 35 points by the end of the third quarter but were contained to just two majors in the final term by the Magpies who finished strong, adding five goals three to the board.

Finals scores were Camperdown 9.10.64 to Cobden 11.14.80.

Best for the Magpies were William Rowbottom, Brendan Richardson, Hamish Sinnott, Sam Gordon and Shane Morgan.

Gordon booted five goals for the day while Toby Kent, Charlie Lucas, Zach Sinnott and Harry Sumner added one each.

In the reserves, Camperdown went down to the top side by 174 points, 26.21.177 to 0.3.3.

Irish visitor Darah Fanning, in his inaugural season, was named in the best alongside Nelson Loader, Billy Conheady and Ethan Coates.

The Magpies’ under 18.5 side struggled against the fourth-side Bombers, going down 21.6.132 to 0.0.0.

Wilba Cheeseman, Brock Stephens, Eddie Baker, Scott Londregan, Tarkyn Love and Logan Mahony were named best for the Magpies.
