Financial support available for fire-affected farmers

FARMERS impacted by recent bushfires across Victoria can now access dedicated financial assistance to support their recovery.

The Albanese and Allan Governments have opened two targeted financial assistance programs for eligible primary producers.

The financial support is part of a broader support package announced recently and funded through joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

It will provide critical help for clean up, repair and long-term rebuilding.

The Primary Producer Bushfire Recovery Grants offer up to $75,000 to eligible applicants to help with clean up and recovery costs.

This may include things such as replacing fences, plant and equipment and disposing of deceased livestock and damaged goods.

“Our primary producers are integral to Australia, and we’re making sure they have the support they need to bounce back stronger from these devastating fires,” Federal Minister for Emergency Management Kristy McBain said.

“This funding means farmers can focus on rebuilding and getting back to work without the weight of financial uncertainty holding them back.

“We know the damage has been severe and the recovery will take time but we’re standing with affected communities every step of the way.”

Primary Producer Bushfire Recovery Concessional Loans of up to $250,000 are also available to help eligible producers with longer-term recovery and rebuilding.

This includes restoring or replacing damaged assets and supporting cashflow while farms get back to full production.

“These programs will give farmers options – whether that’s tackling the immediate clean up, replacing infrastructure, or managing day-to-day operating costs while income is disrupted,” Victorian Minister for Emergency Services Vicki Ward said.

“Every farming business is different, and the impact of fire affects everyone in different ways, which is why this support will give farmers the support they need to recover and rebuild.”
