First loss for men
THE Corangamite Lions division one men tasted defeat for the first time in the 2026 season with a 1-0 loss to Ballarat at Trekardo Park in Redan on Sunday.
The lone goal came in the 31st minute, with Ballarat’s Alex Thomassen scoring for the home team in the round five Ballarat Soccer Association match.
Corangamite sit in third place after the loss, with Ballarat undefeated, winning five from five games to sit on top of the ladder.
The result went the other way in the division one women’s game, with the Lions inflicting Ballarat’s first loss of the season with a strong 3-0 win.
Lenise Mantell scored first in the 32nd minute, with Lara Graham adding another first half goal in the 38th.
Mantell made it a brace with a 72nd minute score, her ninth goal of the season.
The division two men’s game saw Ballarat record a 2-1 win.
The home team scored in the 6th and 57th minutes, with division one goalkeeper Jenani Irunga coming off the bench to goal in the 80th minute.
This week the Lions senior teams have the bye, with the under 12s playing Buninyong at Buninyong’s Royal Park.
