First steps for new preps
THE littlest students in the region marked the start of a big schooling journey last week.

Schools across the district have welcomed Preps/Foundation students for their first year of schooling.
St Patrick’s Primary School assistant principal Tarryn Delaney said the school welcomed 26 preps.
“The students had an excellent week getting to know their new school and their classroom routines,” she said.
“The children focused on phonics learning and used their numeracy time to consolidate their counting forward and back.
“There were plenty of smiles outside during playtime as they played in the playground and sandpit.
“All Foundation students were excited to receive a student of the week at our assembly for having a great start to life at St Patrick’s.”
Camperdown College also saw 26 Preps start their schooling journeys, with Prep teachers Kim Robertson and Grace Coker helping to guide them through a smooth transition to primary education.
Derrinallum P-12 College principal Caitlyn Fitzgerald said the three students who started at the school this year have been fitting in well.
“We’ve had a really successful transition program last year with the kindergarten, so we’ve had a really smooth start to the year,” she said.
“The kids have been really confident coming in – there hasn’t been any hesitation to come in and start their learning, which is great.”
