First win for female cricketers
COBDEN’S women’s team scored its first win in the Warrnambool Moyne District Cricket Association women’s competition on Sunday with a 10 wicket win over Dennington.

Dennington won the toss and elected to bat first on the small Dennington number two oval.
Cobden restricted the home team to 5/105 from their 25 overs.
“We put an emphasis on our fielding, we knew it was a small, quick ground,” Cobden captain Ingrid Bellman said.
“We really showed up on the day, it was the best we have fielded, the aim was to keep them to around 100.”

Bellman praised her bowling lineup for their efforts.
“Everyone bowled well, there weren’t too many loose ones.
“We got a couple of run outs, the practice we have been doing in picking the ball up cleanly and throwing it in certainly paid off.”
Olivia Coburn took her first senior wicket for Cobden, with Rachel O’Keeffe and Anna Dickson also taking one each.
The Knights made short work of the run chase, passing Dennington’s score in the 13th over without losing a wicket.
Bellman smashed 51 retired from 40 balls with 10 boundaries, while her opening partner Anna Dickson scored 12 retired from 21 balls.
“Anna and I were given jobs by Craig (Cobden coach Craig Hanks), Anna was asked to keep turning the strike over which she did, I had to score if the ball was there to be hit.
“Anna and I have known each other for a long time and have a good understanding batting together.”
Cobden has a bye this Sunday in the WMDCA competition, with the Knights’south west teams starting their season tonight with Cobden Blue playing Ecklin at South Purrumbete and Cobden Gold playing Bookaar at Frederick Street Oval.
