Following their sibling’s lead
THE school captains for St Coleman’s Primary School have the rare opportunity to follow in the footsteps of their older siblings.

Archie Dale and Sadie Wardlaw have been named school captains for 2025, providing a voice for students on issues of importance.
This year marks a special occasion as both Archie and Sadie have older siblings who served as school captains at St Colman’s Primary School previously.
Archie said he was excited to follow the lead set by his older brother, Mason.
“I felt pretty good to be named a school captain because my older brother got to be one as well,” he said.
“He was captain two years ago.
“I talked to him about it and he said it was good because you get to do more stuff.”
Sadie said her sister, Ivy, had also been a school captain two years ago.
“I like to read speeches and I try to be a good person,” she said.
“My sister was also a school captain and we talked about me being a captain as well.
“She said she hoped I would get it but I needed to set a good example and be a good role model.”
The school captains will provide a voice for their peers through the Student Representative Council, where they will be able to provide feedback to staff on what students need to heighten their education and guide school fundraising efforts.
“We will have meetings to talk about what fundraisers we need to raise money for people who can’t afford things,” Sadie said.
Archie said he felt it was important for students to have a voice.
“We get to talk about the things the school needs to be better,” he said.
“It gives us a chance to be better for the future.”
Sadie said she felt school captains could also provide an opportunity to lead by example for younger students.
“It’s important to lead the school by showing how to be a role model to the little kids and showing them how to be more sensible,” she said.
Keep an eye out for upcoming publications when school captains from other schools across the area will be announced.
