Food science intrigues Timboon students
TIMBOON P-12 School Year Five/Six students enjoyed a tasty science demonstration from Great Ocean Road Cordial Syrups creator Anne Rosolin recently.

Timboon Agriculture Project (TAP) coordinator Andrea Vallance said the demonstration tied in with what the students are currently learning in the classroom.
“Our Year Five/Six science students are investigating the difference between reversible and irreversible changes,” she said.
“Anne outlined her business that originated from her grandmother’s lemon, lime and orange cordial recipe and described the 17 syrup flavours she produces from fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
“She described the way the various fruits or flavours are prepared by peeling, chopping, juicing, boiling or infusing with botanical and other ingredients.
“After discussions about changes in state, the classes were challenged to make their own syrups from a range of ingredients including cucumber, kiwi fruit, blood oranges, nashi pears, carrot, rock melon and quince.”
The students were able to learn about how the ingredients changed throughout the different processes with the creation of their own cordial syrups.
“The class discussed how the changes affected the colour, taste, clarity, smell, texture and structure of the finished product and tasted both the raw and processed ingredients,” Mrs Vallance said.
“How lucky we are to have innovative people like Anne in our TAP community of educators.”
