FOOTY fever is alive and well at Cobden Primary School.

Students across all year levels were last week presented with a new footy to take home, purchased through AFL Victoria’s strategic community investment fund.

According to former junior president of the Cobden Football Netball Club, Wayne Robertson, the children were “absolutely thrilled” to take home a new footy.

“It was a complete surprise for the kids and I think they were pretty stoked,” Robertson said.

“Hopefully these balls will entice them to be active at home and if it also encourages them to take part in the Auskick program that’s a bonus.”

Around 150 children from the school had the chance to chose between a white, yellow or pink ball to take home.

“I was on hand to present the balls last Friday, along with Cobden club’s current senior president James Green and junior president Chris Walsh,” Robertson said.

With Auskick set to kick off in term two at Cobden, Robertson encouraged all local families to log on to the Auskick website and register for the Cobden centre program.

The sessions are held under lights from 6pm, with the program targeted at primary school aged children from the age of five years.

The nine weekly sessions are open for both boys and girls.
