Theatre: Ron and Helen Land, who spent a decade teaching in the area, have encouraged former students to attend an upcoming production they have developed.

Ron and Helen Land taught in the area between 1980 and 1990.

“We were both heavily involved with many theatrical/musical productions, West Side Story, Oliver, a three-school production of Superstar – this production involved upward of 120 performers and was staged at Camperdown’s Theatre Royal,” Mr Land said.

“There was a theatre restaurant performance ‘Glitters’, and an out of town big production (at Bostocks Creek Hall) of an original production called Science Fiction A Double Feature.

“Mame, Joseph, were staged along with many rock eisteddfods at Timboon.”

Mr Land said after leaving the area the pair remained involved with many aspects of theatre and performance.

“We both have such fond memories of our time in south west Victoria,” he said.

Later this month, the pair will perform their original mini musical comedy – Bang Your Mangoes – at MC Showroom in Prahran.

Mr Land said Bang Your Mangoes is inspired by true events when a waiter in far north Queensland expressed his irritability at mangoes falling onto tables.

“When people come to see the show we have prologue on that incident,” he said.

“We go through a number of themes. We look at love and what happens in the after life.

“It’s funny comedy.”

Mr Land said Bang Your Mangoes has 11 original songs.

“It’s a fast-paced script, with the incident in far north Queensland as the catalyst for the show,” he said.

Past students of the pair were encouraged to head along to the performances.

“The response we’ve had from past students has been excellent,” Mr Land said.

“Come and see the teachers in the spotlight.”

The performances of Bang Your Mangoes will be held between March 21 and March 23.
