Frank takes tipping crown

FRANK Riordan was the cream of the crop at this year’s Josie Black Community Health Centre social support group 2023 footy tipping competition.
A total of 23 group members took part in this year’s competition as the top three changed positions consistently in a tightly-contested season.
The leader board is not disclosed after round 19, giving five weeks of guessing before the winner for the year is unveiled at a two-day celebration.
Last Wednesday the group put their skills to the test with in-house activities and an footy-themed lunch, and on Thursday enjoyed a footy tipping barbecue luncheon with the winners announced.
This year’s top three tippers were:
• Frank Riordan, 146 points;
• Greg Money, 139 points; and
• Barb Rees 138 points.
Mr Riordan thanked the Terang and Mortlake Health Service staff for organising the much-loved annual competition.
“It is a lot of hard work for them to do each and every week so we appreciate them for doing so,” he said.
“I enjoy doing it and I’m lucky I got some tips right towards the end of the season because I think it didn’t start very well.
“Thank you to the team not only for the competition, but for all the do to look after us each and every week.”
Not everybody can be a winner, however.
Wooden spoons were also awarded for those who struggled to find tipping form, with the pyrographic designs on the spoons kindly donated by Darcy McGlade at Diamer Signs Timboon.
