Free barbecue to celebrate youth sports

CORANGAMITE residents aged 12-25 can make friends and enjoy a free barbecue at the upcoming Youth Sports Day this school holidays.

As part of the Victorian Government Youth Engage Funding, the Corangamite Shire Council Youth Services team has organised three free health and fitness sessions at Camperdown Community Stadium on Tuesday, April 15.

Council coordinator community engagement and development Bec Reedman invited young locals to come along and have fun at one, two, or even all three if they’re eager.

“It’s going to be a great day filled with fun, fitness, and fantastic food,” she said.

“You can do as many or as few of the activities as you like. Select your sessions when you register.

“Kickstart your day with a yoga and Pilates session led by qualified hatha, yin yoga and reformer and mat pilates teacher Bree Harrison from Terang Fitness from 7.30am to 8.15am.

“She will take the young yogis through stretch, core exercises and finish with relaxation.

“This session is perfect for those aged 15 and above, but hurry – there are only 20 places available. Please bring your own mat or a towel.”

After working up an appetite, participants can enjoy a barbecue breakfast from 9am to 9.30am.

“Bring along your tennis racquet and join tennis with Ben O’Brien from 9.30am to 12.30pm,” Ms Reedman said.

“Ben is one of Warrnambool’s favourite tennis players who has coached players across the world.

“He will share the game he loves with the young people of Corangamite.

“This session is open to anyone aged 12 and above, with a maximum of 20 participants.

“If you don’t have a racquet, one can be provided for you. Tennis balls will also be available.”

Another barbecue at lunchtime will refuel the participants from 12.30-1pm.

“To wrap up the day we have an exciting basketball session, led by south west legend Bobby Cunningham, from 1-3.30pm,” Ms Reedman said.

“This activity is open to those aged 12 and above, with room for up to 40 people.

“Book in fast as there are limited spaces available.

“Please also bring along a water bottle.”
