Freeballers favoured to win

FREEBALLERS broke clear of the pack to finish on top of the Corangamite volleyball ladder at the end of the winter season.

NOBTS gave up their share of the lead when they were beaten 2-1 by Poachers in the final round.

It was a thrilling match that saw the last two sets finish in 13-11 scorelines.

After an unusually slow start, Poachers finished the season strongly with two convincing wins to move into third place.

The A grade finals will also include Cooriemungle Bulls (fourth) and Gorge Chocolates (fifth) who are both capable of making a real impact.

The Bulls generally lead the ladder but have played lower-key volleyball this season, while new team Chocolates have some highly-skilled players who can dominate an opposition slightly off their game.

While Freeballers will be premiership favourites, any of the other four teams have the ability to pinch A grade honours.

The B grade section will be contested by Champs, Cowgirls, Ballbusters and Net Ninjas in a round-robin format that will keep all teams involved until the very end of the night (most points will win).

Round seven results:

Gorge Chocolates def Champs 3-1.

Freeballers def Cooriemungle Bulls 2-0.

NOBTS def Gorge Chocolates 2-1.

Cooriemungle Bulls def Net Ninjas 4-1.

Poachers def NOBTS 2-1.

Ballbusters def Net Ninjas 3-1.

Poachers def Champs 5-0.

Freeballers def Ballbusters 4-0.

Ladder: Freeballers 42, NOBTS 38, Poachers 32, Cooriemungle Bulls 30, Gorge Chocolates 24, Champs 16, Cowgirls 16, Ballbusters 14, Net Ninjas 4.
