Welcome: Camperdown Police have welcomed Senior Constable Zach Wilson and Constable Jonathon Cannon to the station recently.

Constable Jonathon Cannon has been familiarizing himself with the Camperdown response zone in recent days, while Senior Constable Zach Wilson has been working in the area for the past few months.

Const Cannon said he originally came from the Melbourne East police station, which has been a big change moving from the city to the country.

“It’s a change of pace, but also a change in policing – city policing versus country policing,” he said.

“I’ve been happy to see quite a large patch.

“I got to see some other stations around the place like Terang and Cobden.

“There’s some good members around there, and we had some quite jovial chats.

“I’m looking forward to meeting more of the community.”

Const Cannon had spent much of his first few days getting to know the area and the various other police stations across the district.

He said what he is most looking forward to is being more thorough with his police work and learning a different craft away from the bustle of the city.

Snr Const Wilson said his move to the Camperdown police station was like a homecoming, since he and his family grew up in Colac.

“When I joined the job, I worked for a couple of months at Colac, then went up to Ararat for a few years, then across to Maryborough for nearly two years,” he said.

“It’s time to come home – get closer to family and having young kids needing that family support.

“We’ve got a great crew here, an awesome boss, we get the mixture of one-up and two-up shifts, and we cover a large response zone which is good - it’s like a fresh start, really.”

As a father to two young children, Snr Const Wilson said he was primarily seeking the good work-life balance a 16-hour police station was able to afford him.

“I don’t have any real career-driven ambitions at the moment,” he said.

“I’m just taking everything as it comes.”
