BARANBALI Kindergarten will begin the year with a fresh new look after a number of works were completed over the holidays, with more scheduled during the first term.

The walls of the kindergarten have been repainted white, while new linoleum and carpets will be laid over coming weeks.

In addition, a new outdoor road has been laid in the outdoor play space to replace the older road that had been there for close to 20 years.

Baranbali Kindergarten director Bronwyn O’Keeffe said she was excited to see the renovations completed.

“I love the fact it’s all coming to fruition and it’s all for the children,” she said.

“Everything is past its use-by date – it’s been there for close to 40 years in some cases.

“I think it’ll give it a nice, fresh look and make it a nice place for children to play and learn – particularly the flooring because the children are always down there.

“We use it all the time with dancing and building with blocks – it’s a real asset for the kinder.

“People have worked for these things and given their time to organise them – it’s a credit to the management committee of the kindergarten.”

As the new term begins, some works will still be underway, including the laying of new flooring, but most of the renovations have been completed.

“We’ve had long-term plans, and we’ve had to prioritise – now these have come to the forefront,” Ms O’Keeffe said.

“We’ve put away funds each year for these types of things, as well as capital works.

“There’re no fees at the kindergarten – we’re a community-based kindergarten, so a lot of the funding we get through the government goes to the children.

“It’s by us doing the working bees ourselves, the committee positions all being volunteer positions and a lot of the smaller maintenance being done by families that allow us to use funding for the more specialist works.

“It’s using the free kinder money for the children, rather than having it in the bank.”

All works are expected to be completed by the end of first term.
