Frogs remain optimistic
ECKLIN has started the 2025/26 Colac-South West premier division one cricket competition with a 109 run loss to Alvie.

“They’re a pretty good side, we didn’t know much about them, despite the loss we got a lot out of the day,” new Ecklin captain Jamie Dewell said.
Alvie won the toss and elected to bat in the match played at the Alvie Recreation Reserve.
The Swans raced to 2/166 before Brendan Cook broke through in the 27th over.
“Our plans at the start didn’t really work,” Dewell said.
“At the 25 over drinks break we changed up our plans and things started to change for us.”
The second 25 overs of the innings saw the Frogs concede just 95 runs while taking seven wickets as Alvie finished on 9/255.
Debutant Harry Bee, Harry Carter and young leg-spinner Jasper Fraser all took two wickets each to peg back the home team.
“Our bowling was pretty good.
“Harry Bee is transitioning from turf cricket to synthetic so he will get better once he gets used to it.”
Apart from a 75 run partnership between Dewell and Bee, the Frogs lost regular wickets in the run chase.
Dewell, back in Australia after a season back home in England, top scored with 61 from 70 balls.
“I felt really good coming straight off a season back at home.
“It actually hasn’t felt like I’ve been away from Ecklin at all.”
The Frogs were dismissed for 146 in the 40th over.
“We got a lot out of the game and will continue to gel and keep working at training.”
This week Ecklin will travel to Pomborneit to play the Bulls who also lost in round one.
“It will be another tough game, we’ll get a few back and have a crack.”
Ecklin’s lower grade teams commence their season this week, with the division two Frogs hosting Heytesbury-Princetown Blue at Ecklin, while the division three Frogs play Heytesbury-Princetown at Princetown.
