Frustrating round for Tigers

A DOMINANT final quarter from Colac Imperials saw Simpson’s senior footballers slip out of the top five last weekend.

In what was anticipated to be a game between two quality sides, Tigers coach Daniel Beard said his players became increasingly frustrated with some decisions which resulted in them giving away free kicks – which in turn created easy goals.

“I know we were all getting pretty frustrated but what we should have done was not let that get to us and instead do what we do well,” Beard said.

“We did a lot right and we had some really good passages of play but we were only up by five points going into the final term.

“Their mids really got on top of us, with them taking Matty Drayton out of the game, and our other mids didn’t do enough to lock down on Indi Parish. In addition, their backs did a good job on our key forwards to quieten them after quarter time.

“They managed to kick four majors while we only added two points. We know what it takes to win the big games and we’ll now look to this weekend’s clash with Alvie. They’re also a quality side but the competition is close so we’ll go out there, play our best and hopefully take the win.”

Final scores were Colac Imperials 15.6.96 to Simpson 11.9.75.

Best for the Tigers were Mark Jamar, Brenton De Jong, Brad Salmon and Lochie Hawkins.

Nicholas Harding kicked three goals for the side while Jarrod Garth and Brad Salmon added two each.

Other goal kickers were Mark Jamar, Thomas Leishman, Ryleigh McVilly and Brock Neal.

The Tigers’ reserves side now sits second on the ladder following a well-earned 83-point win over the Imperials on Saturday.
