The Camperdown Cup proved to be a perfect place for a bridal party.

Around 2500 people went through the gates for the cup, with fascinators and stylish hats abound despite the windy morning.

Camperdown Turf Club manager Karen Van Kempen said the club was happy with last Saturday’s crowd, with racegoers being well-behaved over the course of the day.

“The day was quite windy at the start, but it turned in to a pleasant day as the afternoon went on,” she said.

“The crowd was down about 200 on last year, which, given the day and the weather at the start of the day, we were quite happy with it.”

The annual Fashions on the Field once again proved popular, with 22 women and eight men vying for the title of best dressed.

The best dressed gent went to Stan Woods, with Spencer Clark being awarded the runner-up prize.

Best dressed lady was won by Melinda Nurse, with Di Cornish receiving the runner-up prize.

Ms Van Kempen said the highlight of the day was an on-track star.

“One particular jockey rode four winners,” she said.

“Will Gordon, who rode the winner of the cup, he won the Neville Wilson trophy that we have every year for the leading jockey.

“He rode four winners out of the nine races, which was a really good effort.”
