PARENTS of babies and young children are invited to Camperdown Library on Tuesdays to participate in two special programs.

The programs, Rhyme Time and Baby Bounce, are half hour sessions designed to foster a love of reading through songs, rhymes, actions and reading.

Rhyme Time, which happens at 10.30am during the school term, is open for preschool children aged one to three years.

A library spokesperson said, while the ages are recommended, it does not mean the program is not open to older or younger children.

“Generally, the program is for one-year-olds and up,” the spokesperson said.

“We do stories, rhymes, songs and little actions, and introduce children to reading.

“It’s all for reading and language development, helping children develop a love for reading, and being prepared for school.”

The other program is Baby Bounce, which is held at 11.30.

Baby Bounce is an interactive session that introduces parents and babies to songs and rhymes, also providing parents an opportunity to meet others.

The spokesperson said Baby Bounce is for all parents and babies.

“They don’t have to be first-time parents or anything,” the spokesperson said.

“It’s involving a lot of songs, rhymes and actions, but it’s intended for very small babies from newborn up until they wriggle so much they can’t be contained, usually around one year old.

“It’s all about that early childhood development, so we go with the motto ‘talk, read, sing, play every day’, so encouraging those activities for all families and children.

“It’s a great way to get to know other people too; a lot of families really like to meet other parents of children of a similar age, especially if they have relocated to Camperdown.”

Both programs are held in the children’s reading area at the Camperdown Library.
