ST COLMAN’S Primary School students are pounding the pavement to raise funds through their annual major fundraising raffle – which this year has a local twist.

Local loot: St Colman’s Primary School has launched its annual fundraiser with a special twist, giving the lucky major prize winner a wide variety of options in how their $3000 prize will be spent.

The school’s annual raffle has this year been rebranded as the Local Loot Draw due to a wider variety of local businesses the lucky major winner can spend their vouchers at.

In previous years the major prize has been a voucher to spend at Scott’s Betta Electrical, but this year it will be a $3000-worth of vouchers which can be spent at a number of Mortlake-based businesses.

Second prize will be a $1000 Neighbourhood Benefits Card, supplied by Mortlake South Wind Farm developer Acciona, which can be spent at participating businesses in Terang and Mortlake.

Third prize will be a $500 voucher supplied by Bates IGA supermarket in Mortlake.

“With two weeks to go, ticket sales are a little down but we know the majority of sales come in the final weeks, so we’re confident we will reach our fundraising target,” raffle coordinator Jane Lee said.

“We’ve been out and about selling the tickets, which the kids have been really involved in and enjoy doing.

“We’re hoping to raise $8000-$10,000 as we have in other years.”

The funds raised in previous years were used to build a large undercover area, basketball court and technology upgrades for the students to use in the classroom.

For a good cause: St Colman’s Primary School students were excited to learn all funds raised thought the school’s major raffle this year will go towards upgrading the playground.

This year, all funds raised will be used to upgrade the playground area – which has been a particular point of excitement for the students.

The annual fundraiser is a point of pride for the students, who take turns visiting the WVLX saleyards and Bates IGA Supermarket to sell tickets.

Mrs Lee said students enjoy a range of benefits as part of their hands-on role in selling the tickets.

“It’s a wonderful benefit when the kids are involved in the process because they know the funds raised this year will be used to upgrade the school’s playground area,” Mrs Lee said.

“They enjoy being so involved, and then to see how the funds are used to upgrade the school gives them a real feeling of accomplishment.”

A maximum of 600 tickets are available, giving the community great odds to earn one of the three prizes.

Tickets are available for $25 until Thursday, September 5 online at www.trybooking.com/CTQAO or through the school office, and will be drawn the same day.
