Funds flow for businesses
FAÇADE upgrades can now be completed at two businesses after Corangamite Shire Council voted to approve two applications of the Business Assistance Scheme (BAS) at this week’s Ordinary Meeting of Council.
A third business has seen a revision of its application to reflect an administrative correction following its approval at last month’s meeting.
All three businesses received funding under stream one – business façade improvement, which aims to support businesses with street frontage to enhance the visual appearance and function of the building.
South West Vic Electrical received $3500 to go towards façade improvement works and landscaping enhancements, in addition to a $487.50 planning permit fee waiver.
Terang and District Indoor Sports Recreation Centre also received funding for new business identification signage, with $3000 in funding and a fee waiver of $1302.80.
The total funding commitment sought was $6500, with fee waivers totalling $1790.30 for the two applicants.
As reported at the end of last month, Progressing Cobden received $2783.50 for new business identification signage for the Cobden Visitor Information Centre.
The initial report presented to council included a fee waiver of $226.50, which has been revised up to $1302.80 due to the signage exceeding the eight square metre trigger for a higher statutory fee category.
Councillor Ruth Gstrein encouraged businesses in the shire to apply for funding, with $19,419 remaining of the initial budget allocation of $50,000.
“Once again this Business Assistance Scheme has been put to very good use by South West Vic Electrical as well as Terang and District Indoor Sports Recreation Centre to upgrade their facades,” she said.
“South West Vic Electricals faces onto Scott Street here in Camperdown as well as the footpath, so it could certainly do with a lick of paint and new façade.
“Terang and District Recreation Centre is mixed signage – it looks a bit hodgepodge, so I think that it’s a good use of funds.”
