Funds flow through BAS program

TWO businesses this month shared in $3864.55 in funding under Corangamite Shire Council’s Business Assistance Scheme (BAS) program.

The funding was approved at this week’s Ordinary Meeting of Council, with Camperdown Nursery and Mart and the Port Campbell Surf Lifesaving Club being the recipients.

Camperdown Nursery and Mart received $2000 under stream two – creative industries and placemaking – for a family-friendly event to be held in Ware Street.

The event includes market stalls, children’s activities and food vans, with councillor Jo Beard hinting at a special appearance for the upcoming event.

“I was looking at the experience that they’re hoping to hold that night with that event, and they’ve got Nathan Griggs who, mind you, is better well-known as Nathan ‘Whippy’ Griggs,” she said.

“I have a stubby holder in my caravan after seeing him in the Northern Territory – he is amazing, and he does whip cracking.

“What a great family event that will be.”

Port Campbell Surf Lifesaving Club received $1864.55 under the community enterprise projects to fund accredited Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training to upskill volunteers and allow the club to host more events at their venue.

Councillor Laurie Hickey said both were worthwhile applications.

Mayor councillor Kate Makin reminded businesses the BAS is still open for next month’s round, with a remaining budget of $33,939.45 following this month’s round.
