Funds raised for a good cause
THE wider community enjoyed a toe- tapping opportunity to raise funds for a mental health charity over the weekend.
The Music Homestead Let’s Talk Country Music Festival drew hundreds just outside Mortlake on Saturday for a day of good music, better company and the chance to connect with a message of how important it is to discuss mental health, seek help when it is needed and embrace values which create a healthier society.
Music Homestead secretary Julie Stewart-Murray said the day had been a success, with no shortage of positive feedback from attendees.
“It went really well, a lovely day weather-wise – nice and comfortable, not too cold and not too hot,” she said.
“It was great starting at 1pm and running through until around 10pm; the patrons had a great time and plenty of people got up and danced to the music.
“Probably one of the highlights of the day was when one of the performers, Jodie Beer’s nine-year-old got up and performed.
“It was lovely to see everyone get up and dance to her song; that moment captured the community feel of the event.”
Throughout the day, representatives of local mental health not-for-profit Let’s Talk Foundation took to the stage to deliver talks on the importance of protecting, discussing and seeking help for mental health.
“They gave their talks and people provided their donations on entry, which was wonderful to see,” Ms Stewart-Murray said.
“It was overall a drama free day, we didn’t have any issues, and it was well attended.
“We had gazebos set up for people, food and drinks for sale, and everyone seemed to enjoy an afternoon of listening to music.
“We had a little something for everyone.”
Ms Stewart-Murray said the day could not have been possible without the efforts of volunteers, who not only helped out on the day but also provided their expertise prior to set up the large stage, lighting and equipment.
“Music Homestead would like to thank all the volunteers to helped to put the day on,” she said.
“Especially (paramedic) Gavin Flack, who provided first aid services free of charge – and it was on his birthday.
“Thank you to all volunteers, musicians and a big well done to Ray Anderson and his team for putting up the big stage and running the sound.”
