Funds to flow for community events

ORGANSIERS of local festivals and events are invited to apply for grants of up to $10,000 as part of the Moyne Shire Council Festival and Event fund.

Applications opened from this week, with funding available for eligible participants who can demonstrate either a significant social, cultural, economic, or environmental contribution to the community.

Moyne Shire mayor Ian Smith said he was looking forward to seeing applications from a range of festivals and events on this year’s social calendar.

“This funding will help us continue to support socially inclusive and culturally rich events that provide economic benefits and contribute to the growth of our region,” he said.

“Festivals and events have a long-term flow-on effect beyond ticket sales.

“They increase visitation and support local businesses, which is why council is so pleased to support events across the region.”

The Port Fairy Marathon and Community Running Festival received funding under the grant scheme for their 2024 event.

Event co-ordinator Bree Ryan said the funding had opened possibilities for the event.

“Council funding has paid for the big essential things for our event, such as traffic management, to ensure our event is able to run,” she said.

The Koroit Truck Show is another event that secured a grant from the Festival and Event fund.

Organising committee secretary Julie Houlihan said the funding allowed for an expanded offering.

“Council funding enabled us to not just have the trucks on display, but also provide a motorbike display for the children as well as a woodchop competition,” she said.

Those planning to apply for the Moyne Shire Council Festival and Event fund must contact the shire’s events team before applying on 1300 656 564 or to moyne@moyne.vic.gov.au to discuss how this funding opportunity could help support their event.

More information and guidelines can be found at www.moyne.vic.gov.au/Our-Community/Community-Grants/Festival-and-Event-Fund.

Applications for the Festival and Event fund will remain open until May 6.
