COBDEN and Camperdown Community Bank has made a commitment to Cobdenhealth to the tune of $150,000.

Bank board chair Pat Robertson said the donation, which was announced on Tuesday, was the biggest single donation in the bank’s history.

“The board of Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank is delighted to donate $150,000 to Cobdenhealth,” she said.

“It’s by far the most we’ve ever given to any community group.

“We’re really excited about it.”

Mrs Robertson said the funds would be used to upgrade the IT network at Cobdenhealth which would benefit staff and clients.

“It’s (the funds) for WIFI across the facility, laptops and new desktops as well,” she said.

“Currently the system isn’t at all satisfactory.

“This will improve things for the staff and the residents.

“It will make things much more efficient.”

Mrs Robertson said the vision of the original bank board was now coming to fruition.

“The vision of our original bank board that set up the bank that said “we’re doing this for the community” is now really coming into fruition so that we are able to make a difference in the community,” she said.

“The only way that we could do this is with the communities support.”

Cobdenhealth chief executive officer Bill Tsimis welcomed the funding announcement.

“It’s great to have the support of the community bank,” he said.

“It’s a really positive step forward for us.”

Mr Tsimis said he believed the IT upgrade would make the job easier for staff.

“Thank you, it’s much appreciated,” he said.

“I just about fell off my chair when Pat told me about it.”

Staff joined with board members past and present of both the Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank and Cobdenhealth to celebrate the occasion.

Cobdenhealth board chair Duncan Morris said the IT upgrade would be a positive step for the health service.

“As chair of the Cobdenhealth board I’d like to really, really thank the current board of the community bank for this wonderful contribution,” he said.

“We’ve tried to support each other over the journey.”

Mr Morris said the IT uprade was something staff had been asking for in recent years.

“Without the money it would have been a lot, lot harder to do,” he said.

“It’s great when the community can come together to do something for the organisation.”

Comwire IT director Lee Shrimpton also attended the celebration.

He said the company had been contracted to complete the upgrades.

Mr Shrimpton also announced a donation of IT equipment valued at $30,000 for the health service.

“We’re here to take Cobdenhealth to the cloud,” he said.

The funding announcement on Tuesday also coincidently coincided with the Cobden branches 17th birthday.

Mrs Robertson paid tribute to the wider community who have supported both the Cobden and Camperdown branches over the years which had made this donation possible.

“Thank you to everyone that has been involved over the past 17 years,” she said.
