ORGANISERS of the 46th annual Terang Gala Night are hopeful of a wonderful celebration on Thursday, December 23 to help usher in Christmas.

While the event will not go ahead in its traditional format, instead adopting an approach similar to last year, the night will mark a culmination of projects which have been in development for months.

Terang Progress Association president Ben Dennis said organisers were busy putting the finishing touches on a range of activities for all to enjoy on the night.

The ‘Terang – Just as we are’ photography competition will launch with the support of shops alongHigh Street.

“Our plan is to have a lot of the photographs from the competition displayed in business windows along the shopfronts,” Mr Dennis said.

“The sale of our photography book will also be launching at around the same time.”

A new mural, which is being painted by Glenormiston artist Jess Fowler this week, will also be officially unveiled on the night.

The mural depicting two kookaburras will be featured on the wall between the Fraz Family Pharmacy and the Josie Black Community Health Centre.

“My main artworks which I focus on these days are birds,” MsFowler said.

“I just love kookaburras. They are cute, fluffy, cuddly and quirky. I love them so much that when I was asked to do the mural I thought what better thing to cheer people up after a difficult two years than to have some funny critters which are always happy and laughing.”

The mural will be the largest piece Ms Fowler has attempted, which she said was an exciting venture.

“It’s about 3.5x 3 metres, which is definitely the biggest I haveworked on.

“It’s daunting to work on but I generally do better work on alarger scale.

“But painting the mural is good fun and I was just so proud to have the opportunity to contribute something which will be a permanent addition for people to enjoy.”

It also wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit from Santa.

While a reindeer-drawn sleigh is great, Santa will instead be hitting the streets in style thanks to the generosity of the Terang CFA Brigade.

“Santa will be doing a tour around town giving out lollies to kids,” Mr Dennis said.

“We’ll have the details of what time and route Santa will be taking out soon via the Terang Facebook page.”

The iconic draw of the trailer full of goods raffle will again be live-streamed via the Terang Facebook page at facebook.com/terangvictoria, which will be drawn at 7pm on the night.

“Tickets for the raffle are now available in a range of local shops, and you don’t have to be watching live to win,” Mr Dennis said.

What end to the evening could be better than taking the opportunity to check out this year’s entrants in the Vern Walters Christmas Lights Competition?

The competition will go ahead this year thanks to the support of the Terang Co-op.

“The competition will be judged by staff at the Co-op, with prizes up for grabs,” Mr Dennis said.
