Game 200 for McInnes

POMBORNEIT Maroon division three captain Donnie McInnes celebrated his 200th senior match for the club with a fine all-round performance in the win over Camperdown.

McInnes, who debuted for the club back in the 2006/07 season, made an unbeaten 31 and took four wickets in his milestone game.

“I never thought I’d get to 200 games even though I've been at the club for a long time,” McInnes said.

“It feels fantastic to finally get there.”

McInnes started his junior career with the former Ex-Students Cricket Club, and briefly played for the merged Boorcan/Ex-Students team before joining Pomborneit.

“Most of my friends left after the merger and that was when I decided to join Pomborneit.”

Playing with his older brothers Mark and Troy, and being a part of the 2019/20 division three premiership team, have been the highlights for the 40 year-old.

“I never thought I’d play with Troy so to play in a premiership with him was a real highlight.

“I’ve played a lot of cricket with Mark and would like to play in a flag with him too if possible.”

McInnes left Pomborneit to play at Spring Creek last season, returning to the Bulls after this year after just one season away.

“It was an interesting challenge to play a season in the Warrnambool competition against different opponents on different grounds.

“I went down there to play with a mate but I was always going to come back.”

McInnes is enjoying his first taste of captaincy this season and is bullish about the Maroon team’s chances in the division three competition.

“I’ve never captained before, it’s a very challenging role, I’ve been lucky to have some good, experienced cricketers supporting me.

“We’ve got a great bunch of kids coming through, Saturday’s win put us back in the four, I think we can match it with anyone.”
