Game 200 for Troy

SATURDAY’S division one premier cricket match at Alvie was a special one for Ecklin president Troy Logan, who played his 200th senior match for the club.

Reflecting on the milestone, Logan said 200 games for his club held great meaning.

“It’s pretty special, growing up in Ecklin and still playing for my local team, it means a fair bit,” he said.

The 32 year-old is a product of the Ecklin junior ranks and looks back fondly on his early years.

“I played six years of under 14s then went straight into our division two team back when we only had one team.

“We were quite strong in division two so I spent a lot of those early years batting at number 11.”

Despite spending several years working in Melbourne in sports administration for the AFL, Tennis Australia and a short stint at Cricket Victoria, being involved at his home club has been a constant.

Logan has been president of the Frogs for 10 out of the last 11 years and relishes the role.

“It’s a way to give back to my local community and something I enjoy.”

As a club, Ecklin has gone through a strong growth period in recent years.

“In 2019 we first got a junior side back and it’s grown from there.

“A lot of people deserve credit for contributing, our growth gives me significant motivation to put time in.”

As to his career highlights so far, two premierships and the friendships formed are top of the list.

“The couple of flags, the drought breaking 2011/12 division two premiership and the 2015/16 div two flag were fantastic.

“But the range of people I’ve played with and against has been great, I super appreciate all the relationships built with lots of people over the time I've been involved.”

Logan is bullish about the future of his club.

“Stepping up to division one in recent years has been a big challenge.

“We’re trying to build a sustainable local base, increase our junior participation and improve our facilities, long term we have bold ambitions.”
