BOOKAAR Cricket Club stalwart Simon Baker notched up game number 350 for the Pelicans last weekend.

A life member of the Pelicans, ‘Bakes’ as he is affectionately known, has been a mainstay at the club for more than 20 years.

He has combined playing with volunteer/administrative roles as well as coaching many of the club’s junior teams.

Baker and his division one team-mates took on Pomborneit for round four of South West Cricket and while the side couldn’t quite manage to get a win on the board, the day was a memorable one for the loyal clubman.

The Pelicans currently sit fourth on the league ladder, with last weekend’s loss their first for the season to date.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Pelicans were quick to get runs on the board, with opener Eddie Lucas (36) the first wicket to fall at 1-68.

Baker was the side’s top scorer for the day with a knock of 40 from 79 balls.

He was well supported by captain Tim Fitzgerald with 35 and Fraser Lucas who contributed 27.

Zach Sinnott finished the day unbeaten on 21, with the Pelicans 8/188 off 50 overs.

In return, Pomborneit took 31 overs to surpass the total, finishing the day on 4/190.

Opener David Murphy was effective with the bat, making 87 which included 11 boundaries and a six.

Team-mate Matthew Bignell contributed 39 and Grant Place 33.

Best of the bowlers for the Pelicans were Hamish Sinnott 1/5 off one, Myles Sinnott 1/25 from four and Wilba Cheeseman 1/28 from four.

Michael Winzar was also effective at the crease, taking 1/46 off 10 overs.

Bookaar will take on ladder leaders Heytesbury Princetown tomorrow at the Camperdown College oval.

In other round five games, Ecklin will host Woorndoo, Camperdown will face Cobden and Boorcan will be at home to Pomborneit.
