Gayle Tierney officially opens Mortlake College upgrades

MORTLAKE P-12 College students now have bigger, better classrooms and school facilities to learn in following the completion of upgrades funded by the State Government.
Labor Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney visited Mortlake P-12 College last week to officially open its $2.1 million upgrade.
Ms Tierney said Mortlake P-12 College students and teachers have access to state-of-the-art facilities, with a new architect-designed modular building.
The new building features general purpose classrooms, student toilets, accessible toilet, breezeway and a linking deck to an existing building.
“Mortlake P-12 College is a fantastic local school,” Ms Tierney said.
“I am so excited to join students, teachers and staff to officially open these new facilities, which will help deliver the high-quality education our children need to succeed now and in the future.
“I acknowledge the efforts of past principal Danny Forrest, current principal Sean Fitzpatrick and the school council in obtaining modern learning facilities for Mortlake students.”
Ms Tierney said it was great to see students getting the new modern facilities they deserve where they can learn to their full potential.
“We’re ensuring local students have the best facilities, our classrooms have the best teachers and every child is given every chance to succeed,” she said.
“Local families can now enjoy great new facilities at Mortlake P-12 College.
“Schools in towns like Mortlake are the heart of the community – if you don’t know what is going on, you only need to reach out to someone who is connected to a school community.
“It’s only right we ensure we’ve got all the proper resources to ensure we have a strong and vibrant school community.”
Mortlake College principal Sean Fitzpatrick thanked Ms Tierney and the State Government, previous and current school staff and the builders, architects and workers involved.
“Any building project for a school is a great investment because you can’t lose in supporting students to get better, to grow and to achieve the best outcomes they can,” he said.
“I know the work is continuous, and I was just saying to some of our students that when you start a project it never ends – if you see improvement you keep working towards it.
“We look forward to continuing our improvement beyond the works which we are celebrating today.”
The State Government has invested more than $9 billion to deliver more than 1600 school upgrades, supporting over 10,000 construction jobs for Victorians.
A total of 100 new schools will open by 2026 under the Labor Government’s school building boom, which aims to ensure every child has a great local school and a great start in life.
This building boom will continue over the coming years, with the State Government having already appointed builders to start delivering 14 new schools which will open in 2021.
