Generosity builds new playgrounds for students
TERANG College has installed two new playgrounds thanks to the tireless fundraising efforts of parents and a huge donation from the Terang Community Op Shop.
Work began over the school holidays to construct two new playground areas on the campus, tailored towards different year levels to ensure all students had an area in which they could enjoy play and a physical challenge.
“When we merged the two campuses we were able to bring a lot of play equipment ,but the foundational structures could not be brought here,” Terang College principal Kath Tanner said.
“We’ve been fundraising and planning to build a couple of comprehensive playground areas for the students to utilise, particularly in primary.
“Given the amount of planning it required the playgrounds were ordered last year and are finally installed.
“We’re very excited to open them up, which will hopefully be this Friday or next week.”
Mrs Tanner said the new playgrounds had received widespread support from the community and parents.
“Our parents club was fundraising last year in order to be able to contribute to something they will really value for their children,” she said.
“They initiated a major raffle, which was drawn late last year.
“A lot of local businesses were very generous in donating prizes for the raffle, and the wider community was so supportive in buying tickets.
“We had huge community support, and on top of that the Terang Community Op Shop very generously donated $10,000 for our new playgrounds.
“The Terang Community Op Shop is so generous for its community, and their incredible band of volunteers are part of what makes Terang such an amazing place to be.”
