VICTORIANS dug deep last week to raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital as part of the annual Good Friday Appeal.
People around the state put forth a record-breaking display of generosity, raising $22,328,154 in total.
The Good Friday Appeal has reached a total of more than $421 million raised since the beginning of the initiative.
The final tally locally was:
• Caramut – $2465;
• Garvoc – $27,400;
• Mortlake – $3036; and
• Terang/Noorat – $9355.
Good Friday Appeal Terang-Noorat area manager Rob Rowe said the collection in Terang had been “severely impacted” by COVID-19.
“At the last minute a lot of our volunteers were in COVID isolation but I want to give a shout out to our volunteers who did collect on the day,” he said.
“Their efforts are appreciated, especially Mark and Donna Cole who stepped in at the last minute to assist.
“They all did a wonderful job, and our final total was a result we’re very happy with.”
Good Friday Appeal Mortlake area co-ordinator Wendy McKenzie said the day was a success with more than $3000 raised.
Mrs McKenzie originally had concerns after just one person offered to assist with collection, but a last-minute addition of six volunteers helped to increase the coverage of the town.
“It was really good day, raising $3036 was pretty cool,” she said.
“Thank you to all the volunteers who donated their time and the businesses for their support.
“Mortlake Roadhouse, Shell, Bates IGA and Clarke’s Pies have collection tins all year, which is really good.”
Good Friday Appeal chairperson Penny Fowler thanked the community for its generosity.
“The appeal is all about Victorians giving what they can, everyone doing just a little to create something big, improving countless lives,” she said.
“This has resulted in a phenomenal tally for the 2022 Good Friday Appeal.
“We are incredibly grateful to the whole community for their generous donations to this year’s Good Friday Appeal and extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has come together to support the RoyalChildren’s Hospital.
“Thank you to both the State and Federal Governments for the generous contributions to the appeal to ensure it remains a world-class facility helping sick Australian childrenand families.”
