The Field Geologists Club of South Australia spent time in Camperdown last week, according to club member Ian Lewis.

Mr Lewis said the club, which had been in operation for more than 50 years, does a number of group trips each year.

“A lot of us are very interested to find out about local research of volcanoes,” he said.

“Friends of Mt Leura were very good to us. They showed us up the mount.”

During their stay two local groups helped cater for the visitors nightly meals.

Mr Lewis said club members were impressed with their local hosts.

“The two groups were the Lions Club of Camperdown and 1st Cobden Scouts,” he said.

“They put on a huge variety of food and we struck up some really good friendships.

“Meeting these groups was great.”

Mr Lewis, who is the honorary director of the Kanawinka Geotrail, said the Camperdown region was chosen as it’s central to a number of volcano sites.

He thanked those who had helped make the trip an enjoyable one for members.
