TERANG and District Indoor Sports and Recreation Committee members recognised one of its longest serving members last week.

TERANG and District Indoor Sports and Recreation Committee members recognised one of its longest serving memberslast week.
Committee member Gerard O’Keeffe was presented with a plaque recognising his 32 years of service to the facility.
Mr O’Keeffe was central to the effort to establish the Terang Indoor Sports Stadium in the 1990s and has helped the facility prosper ever since.
He said he was humbled to be recognised but played down his involvement in helping establish the stadium and fitness centre.
“It hasn’t just been a group of four or five of us – there’s been 30 professional people giving us guidance along the way,” Mr O’Keeffe said.
“I just fought for the community establishment really. It’s been the best decision of all time.”
Fellow committee member Kerrin McKenzie said Mr O’Keeffe’s opinion “had been well sought after and well respected” across his 32 years of service.
“It’s good to have someone on there like Gerard the whole way through,” he said.
“He started at the old butter factory at Noorat, was on the committee to fundraise for the new stadium and has stayed ever since.
“He’s not only on the committee but he’s very hands-on – not only with fundraising but also with the building of the facility.”
