Get ready to rumble
MOTORSPORT fans across the district are now counting down the weeks till racing returns to the Simpson Speedway.

Season 2025/26 once again looks set to produce plenty of action, with nine race meetings currently scheduled at Simpson.
The season will kick off on Saturday, December 6 when entrants in the Wingless, Super Sedans and Super Rods categories hit the clay.
This night of pre-Christmas racing promises to be an entertaining one, with drivers keen to dust off the cobwebs and pit their skills on the season’s opening night.
As part of the Formula 500 ‘Speedweek,’ cars will return to the track on Saturday, December 27.
The program will also include 410 Sprintcars.
The new year will get off to a flying start on Friday, January 2 when the Simpson track hosts the ‘Summer Slam’ for Wingless, while Speedcars and Compact Speedcars will also be part of the on-track action.
Just a fortnight later, on Saturday, January 17, the 360LS Sprintcars will heat up Simson Speedway as drivers vie for the 10K Shootout.
The night’s entertainment will also include the ‘Snoopy Slam’ for Super Rods as well as the Street Stocks Invitational.

February is also action-packed, with the Speedcars competing for the state title on Saturday, February 7 and the Super Rods will be fast and furious as drivers try to get their hands on the highly-sought after Trevor Podger Memorial trophy.
Friday, February 13 and Saturday, February 14 are two race nights not to be missed as Simpson hosts the Australian Speedcar Championship.
Night one (Friday) will also include Formula 500s while on night two (Saturday) the 360LS Sprintcars will be part of the action.
Formula 500s, Modified Sedans and the JSPA Junior Series round are all on the program for Saturday, March 21.
The 2025/26 Simpson track season will culminate on Saturday, April 11 with the running of the Merrett Family Memorial for Wingless, along with Streetstocks.
With an action-packed season ahead (all subject to date and class changes), Simpson Speedway president Dale Walsh believes motorsport fans of all ages will be “in for a real treat.”
“We’ve certainly got some great nights of racing coming up and we’re all eagerly awaiting the first meeting on December 6,” Walsh said.
“One of our blue ribbon events this season will be the Australian Speedcar Championship in February.”
This will be the club’s first year hosting this two-night event and Walsh believes they can expect around 40 cars, including possibly two or three Americans along with some from New Zealand; bringing an international flavour to Simpson.
“While it will be exciting to see the teams roll in, the crowds, and the cars hit the track night one will certainly also be tinged with some sadness,” he said.
“One of our great club stalwarts, Jim Lock, sadly passed away a few months ago and he will be greatly missed.
“Jim was our chief steward for around 43 years and at every race meeting you could find him at the gate greeting teams as they entered the pits. He was a great man who did a mountain of work at our track and we’re now working on a way to honour his memory each season.”
