Getting racegoers closer to the action
RACEGOERS will get closer to the action after Terang and District Racing Club completed infrastructure upgrades years in the making.

RACEGOERS will get closer to the action after Terang and District Racing Club completed infrastructure upgrades years in the making.
The club has replaced 200 metres of trackside fencing running the length of the grandstand, allowing those watching horses cross the line to get right beside the action.
Terang and District Racing Club president Shane Scally said the club was pleased to finally have the upgrades completed ahead of a bumper season of racing.
“We needed to put new fencing in so it was decided we would make it far easier for people to get close to the horses,” he said.
“We transferred to roses further up and planted lawn down to give everyone a better experience.
“It will be popular with the kids; you see them on race day wanting to watch the horses and get close, so it’s something we’ve been planning to heighten the race day experience for patrons.”
The upgrades were the last step in fencing works which the club has undertaken over the past three years, which includes the stabling area and horse stalls, parade ring, mounting yard and placegetters’ stalls.
The section of track originally featured a rose garden running the length of the grandstand which has now been removed, however the roses have been replanted further along the length to ensure the reserve maintains its idyllic landscape.
“It gives a more professional look and makes the track really attractive,” Mr Scally said.
“We’ve put a considerable amount of money in to the track over the years.
“It’s important to keep doing capital works program because the longer you put it off, the more the cost is going to stack.”
