CAMPERDOWN is bracing itself for a must-win Corangamite bowls clash this weekend.

The Giants are set to venture to the coast to face Lorne, with the visitors still seeking its first win of the season.

Disappointing losses to Colac Central and Colac (2) have the side reeling in the lower half of the ladder after just two rounds, with win vitals from this point onwards.

Lorne, on the other hand, has started strongly, winning both games.

The Dolphins defeated reigning premiers Colac and backed it up with a tight win over Cobden, putting the rest of the competition on notice.

Giants skipper Ron Cameron said his side is desperate to open its account.

“We haven’t started the season to well, even with having a similar side to last year,” he said.

“We haven’t been able to put our best foot forward yet so this is a must-win game definitely.

“We’ve got to get through this week but this will tell us where we are at playing Lorne, who seem to be an up-and-coming team.”

Cameron said Lorne would enter the contest with a slight advantage given the host club had a carpet surface.

“They’re nearly unbeatable at home because its carpet down there, which is different to the synthetic,” he said.

“It runs on a different line the carpet and it doesn’t swing as much so if you don’t pick it up early then all of a sudden they will have a break on us.

“We need to get used to it early otherwise it could be hard to pick up the margin.

“We’re going to go down early to have a 30 minute roll which we’re hoping puts us in good stead for the day.”

Cross-town rival Camperdown Golf will also hit the road, with the Magpies set to face Simpson.

Both sides have won one game apiece so far, ironically with both of their victories coming over Winchelsea.

In the other games, Cobden heads to Colac to play Colac City, Colac Central hosts Colac (2) and Winchelsea faces Colac (1).
