Goats eager ahead of Tigers challenge
TERANG skipper Tyson Hay is imploring his side not to underestimate division one newcomers Woorndoo when round one of the South West Cricket season starts on Saturday.

TERANG skipper Tyson Hay is imploring his side not to underestimate division one newcomers Woorndoo when round one of the South West Cricket season starts on Saturday.
The Goats are bound for Woorndoo to take on the Tigers in their first division one game since 2013/14, with Terang’s new skipper wary of the newcomers.
“I think Woorndoo will be up and about considering they’re a new club in division one and are coming off a division two premiership,” Hay said.
“We’re looking forward to playing them in our first game back and I’m sure it’s going to be a pretty competitive game.
“I told the boys we can’t take them too easy, especially being a new club in the top grade.
“We’re going to go out there knowing we’re going to get a good contested game of cricket because they’ve shown they’ve been a good side for a couple of years, especially winning a division two flag.”
While of the belief the Goats will be challenged early, Hay wants his side to start strongly.
The all-rounder is keen to see consistency as quickly as possible, with the introduction of the white ball also set to change elements of the game.
Nonetheless he wants his team-mates to enjoy the chance to play cricket once again, with community sport impacted throughout the winter months.
“I think the boys will just be keen to get out and play sport following COVID but I’m looking to start the year off with a flyer,” Hay said.
“Hopefully we can have a good all-round game with both bat and ball.
“With the white ball coming in I’ll be looking for consistency in our off-side bowling and batting wise I want us to put good partnerships together.”
As for who is primed to impress, Hay said he was excited to watch a duo of Goats in action.
“Liam Geary has had a big pre-season with us,” he said.
“He hasn’t done many lately but this year he took of the role of trying to step up a bit.
“We had a practice match last week and he was in really good form so he’ll be the one to watch over the first couple of weeks.
“Another is Charlie Scanlon, he’s been bowling well in the pre-season so those two are the ones to watch for us.”
In the other opening round matches, Cobden will travel to D.C. Farran Oval to face Mortlake, reigning premier Pomborneit hosts the Heytesbury Rebels and Camperdown takes on Bookaar while Noorat has the bye.
