Golf close to causing upset
CAMPERDOWN Golf Magpies Bowling Club’s division one side is proving strong contenders this season.
The division one Saturday team will play Colac Central tomorrow in a match they will be eager to win.
Golf managed to defeat Central at home in round three, by 14 shots, and a repeat of that performance tomorrow would see Golf sitting comfortable on the ladder and out of relegation territory.
Last Saturday Golf was at home to one of the fancied teams this year in Winchelsea.
Golf put up a very good performance to be all square after 90 ends.
However, Winch proved too strong over the concluding ends to win the match 103-93.
Glenn Winsall’s rink of David Bateman, Kevin Russell and Jack Paasse had a good win over Stewart Williams’ rink 29-23.
Gary Body’s rink of Billy Conheady, Algie White and Greg Teal had a good tussle with Jason Armstrong’s rink, going down 15-23.
Paul Richard’s rink of Chris Peason, John Molan and James Henry continued on their winning way with a seven-shot win over David Partridge’s rink, 29-22.
Craig Skene’s rink of Andrew Anderson, Peter Reilly and Greg Molan went down to Rhys Jeff’s rink 20-35.

Division two had a thrilling match against third-placed Cobden, ending the game with both teams tied on 92 shots.
This draw enabled Golf to climb to fifth on the ladder, just seven points behind Colac 2 and with a home game tomorrow against top side Lorne, a win could see them climb into the top four.
John O’Donohue’s rink of Peter James, Pam Place and Noelene Tolland went down to Terrence Beasley’s rink 20-27.
Dan Stewart’s rink of Ro Dunstan, Barb Boyd and Keira Johnson lost to Noah Mungean’s rink 16-25.
Chris McLeod’s rink of Terry Place, Daryl O’Donohue and Greg Edwards had a good win over Colin Hammond’s rink 29-20.

Division three, who were a little undermanned, put up a brave show against third-placed Cobden 2 to go down 50-109.
John Salau’s rink of Marg Stephens, Val Coverdale and Norma Weller tried hard all day but went down to Bert Strampel’s rink 9-26.
Steve Lucas’ rink of Elaine Waterfall, Steph Whiteside and Pat Scott went down to Leon Carrigan’s rink 18-24.

Golf now sits third on the ladder and will play fourth-placed Central next Tuesday in the final match before Christmas.
