Golf Magies return to winners list

CAMPERDOWN Golf Magpies Bowling Club’s division one Saturday team returned to the winners list last weekend.

By wd-news

The team celebrated a 27-shot win over Colac Central 111-84.

Golf shared the rinks with Central, but the rink of Craig Skene, Kevin Conheady, Jamie Norton and Greg Teal sealed the win for Golf with a huge 28 shot win over Ian Johnson’s rink, 41-13.

Billy Conheady’s rink of Chris Pearson, Graeme Fitzgerald and Daryl O’Donohue continued their good form with a 13-shot win over Brian Finn’s rink, 31-18.

David Bateman’s rink of John Molan, Dan Stewart and Jack Paasse battled hard all day but could not overcome a bad start to go down 21-28.

Glenn Winsall’s rink of Peter Reilly, Ash Sinnott and Mick Mahony battled hard all day to go down by seven, 18-25.

Tomorrow Golf travel to Thornton Street to take on the Giants and with neither team taking part in finals this season a close game is expected.

Teams for tomorrow are:

Daryl O’Donohue, Graeme Fitzgerald, Chris Pearson and Billy Conheady (s).

Jack Paasse, Dan Stewart, Peter Reilly and Glenn Winsall (s).

Ash Sinnott, Mick Mahony, John Molan and David Bateman (s/m).

Greg Teal, Jamie Norton, Kevin Conheady and Craig Skene (s).

Golf’s Saturday division two team continued its race for a finals berth with a two-rink all, 14 shot away win over Apollo Bay.

This win saw Golf slip from third to fourth on the ladder due to percentage but with Winchelsea (second) and Birregurra (third) playing each other tomorrow, with Golf playing Colac Central (last) a win on all rinks tomorrow could see Golf finish in second position on the ladder and give themselves the double chance come finals next weekend.

Leanne Fitzgerald’s rink of Kevin Russell, Noel Brebner and Ray Bateman led the way with a huge 22 shot win over Robert Lennies’ rink, 34-12.

Paul Richards rink of Wayne Henry, Taj Merrett and Greg Molan continued their great form with a two shot win over David Smith’s rink, 24-22.

Unfortunately, Chris McLeod’s rink of Sam Whytcross. Mark Winsall and Greg Edwards dropped a five on the final end to go down by two shots, 25-27.

Michael Brebner’s rink of Algie White, Andrew Anderson and James Henry ended the day with a loss, 18-26.

Teams for tomorrow’s home game against Colac Central (please bring afternoon tea) are:

Greg Molan, Taj Merrett, Wayne Henry (m) and Paul Richards (s).

Noel Brebner, Andrew Anderson, Algie White and Michael Brebner (s).

Ray Bateman, Sam Whytcross, Kevin Russell and Leanne Fitzgerald (s).

Greg Edwards, Mark Winsall, Terry Place and Chris McLeod (s).

Golf division four (3) played an away game against Birregurra and secured top spot on the ladder with an all rinks 14 shot win 63-49.

Ro Dunstan’s rink of John O’Donohue, Val Coverdale and Elaine Waterfall got back on the winners list with a three shot win, 23-20.

Rene Wyles team of Janet Molan, Liz Riches and Noelene Tolland also got back on the winners list with a 20-16 win.

New skipper Mark Wallace’s team of Trey Darcy, Gary Mitchell and James Wallace were the big winners on the day, 20-13.

Tomorrow sees Golf four (3) away to Cobden and a tough match is expected.

Teams for tomorrow (skips to arrange transport) are:

Sam Clarke, George Bateman, Pam Place and Peter James (s).

Noelene Tolland, Liz Riches, Janet Molan (m) and Rene Wyles (s).

Elaine Waterfall, Val Coverdale, John O’Donohue and Ro Dunstan (s).

Golf’s division four (4) once again proved to be the unluckiest team of the season going down by three shots to second placed Winchelsea,

This is the second game in a row that Golf has lost by three shots, and they now cannot make the final four as they trail fourth-placed Cressy by 14 points going into the final round tomorrow.

However, they will be keen to finish the season on a high with a win over the combined team of Lismore/Camperdown.

Teams for tomorrow at home to Lismore/Camperdown (please bring afternoon tea): Trish Taylor, Pat Scott, Gary Mitchell and Mark Wallace (s).

Xavier Crabbe, Ella Blyth, Kona Kerr and Denis Place (m/s).

Andrew Whiteside, Zach Regan, John Salau and Isaac Winsall (s).

Emergency: Ilma Daws.

Tuesday’s division three team didn’t get to play their cut throat preliminary final against Colac City last Tuesday due to the total fire ban so they will line up again this Tuesday to do battle.

The team for next Tuesday, at Colac Lakes, is:

Kell Edwards, Ruth Skene, Denis Place and Peter James (m/s). Terri Sinnott, Pat Scott, Norma Weller and Marg Stephens (s).

Val Coverdale, Ella Blyth, Noel Brebner and Liz Riches (s).

The semi-finals of the men’s pairs championship were played last weekend with young guns James Henry and Mick Mahoney accounting for the old guns John Molan and Michael Brebner by one shot.

The combination of Craig Skene and Chris McLeod accounted for the Winsall brothers, Glenn and Mark.

In the final last Sunday afternoon, played over 18 ends, the game was a close one until the 14th end when Skene and McLeod led Mahoney and Henry 10-8.

However, Skene and McLeod picked up a three and two over the next two ends to lead 15-8 before finally taking the title 17-8.

With a huge crowd of onlookers and two young bowlers in the final, the club is in great position and can look forward with confidence to the future.

Sunday sees the start of the men’s 100 up and with a large field of bowlers taking part, a good day’s bowling is assured.
