Golf Notes- Camperdown

THE Camperdown Golf Club hosted a very successful Marie Astell Bowl last Friday.

THE Camperdown Golf Club hosted a very successful Marie Astell Bowl last Friday.

The event attracted visitors from Barwon Heads, Cobden, East Framlingham, Peterborough, Port Fairy, Terang, Timboon and Warrnambool.

Marie was a long-time member at Camperdown who is still very fondly remembered by her many friends at the club.

Once again her husband Charles and daughter Rachael, who sponsor the event, made the presentations on the day.

The teams of four played gentsomes, a modified stableford, with the best two scores recorded on each hole.

The winners were the Camperdown team of Doreen Horan, Maree Finlay, Vicki Fitzgerald and Jenn Downiewith an outstanding score of 94 points.

Another Camperdown combination of Tracey Baker, Donna Conheady and Jane Bennett, with Michelle Beasley from Terang. were in hot pursuit and finished runners-up with 93 points.

The best nine out, with 48 points, went to the Peterborough team of Pam Payne, Jenny DeJong, Kathy Burl and Jo Deppeler.

The best nine in, also with 48 points, went to another Peterborough team of Katherine Robertson, Sophie Bowker, Linda McKenzie and Katherine Hammond.

Nearest the pins were: 2nd Tracey Baker, 15th Liz Fry and 17th Heather Haberfield (Timboon).

Golfers played a round of par in beautiful autumn weather on Wednesday.

Marg White (21) had the best score of the day, finishing square with the card to win A grade.

Deb Narik (25) won B grade with - 2.

Doreen Horan (24) was runner-up with -3 and won the nine-hole competition finishing square on the bottom course.

Two players dominated the nearest the pins - Doreen Horan was closest on the second and 16th (second shot), while Ros Brauer was on the 9th (second shot) and 17th greens.

Balls down the line went to Jenny O'Neil, Steve Douglas, Vicki Fitzgerald and Gayle Gill.

Next week players can opt to play stroke for the women's monthly medal on either Wednesday or Saturday. Deb Narik is on duty.

In women's pennant division one was defeated 5/0 playing Timboon at Timboon.

Division three defeated Port Fairy 4/1 at Peterborough.

Next week division one will play Port Fairy at Peterborough and division three will have the bye.
