Golfers dig deep for the kids
SOME light-hearted banter after a round of golf on a Saturday has amounted to a significant local donation to the Good Friday Appeal.
Members of the Camperdown Golf Club have spent the past 12 months adding gold coins (or notes) to the club’s ‘fines jar’.
According to former men’s captain Tom Moran, the fines include everything from mistakes out on the course to other ‘funny misdemeanours’ which have been witnessed by fellow members.
“Norm Tonks was the instigator of this and it’s all in good fun (the fines). We donate all money directly to The Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal,” he said.
“Last year we raised about $1200 or so and this year we’ve done even better, raising $1900.
“We’re all extremely proud of our contribution to such a worthy cause. The hospital is a wonderful facility doing wonderful things for children.”
