Grand final awaits
POMBORNEIT’S division one and two sides have won their way through to respective grand finals in South West Cricket.
In division one the Bulls earned their spot in tomorrow’s big game after a two-wicket win over Heytesbury/Princetown at SA Wright Oval last Sunday.
The Storm elected to bat first and lost early wickets to be 5/44 before their lower order rallied in the hot conditions, getting to 9/144 from their 50 overs.
A wonderful display of spin bowling from Danussika Bandara saw the left armer take 4/12 from 10 overs, while seamer Stephen Hill was just as miserly, taking 1/10 from 10 overs.
The Bulls lost wickets at regular intervals in the run chase and at 6/96 the game could have gone either way.
The side got there in the end, largely guided by Stephen Hill with a hard-earned 20 not out from 57 balls.
Earlier, opener Dave Murphy top scored with 35.
Pomborneit will play Cobden at Cobden in tomorrow’s grand final.
The division two Bulls bowled first in their semi-final at Timboon and were happy to restrict top of the table Heytesbury/Princetown to 4/199 from their 40 overs on a very fast ground.
Hunter Reynolds and Dean Tevelein, with two wickets each, were the pick of the bowlers.
Charlie Voutier and Matt Richardson got the team off to a great start with a 70-run opening partnership.
Voutier went on to make 55 from 82 balls, including eight fours.
The Bulls’ middle order kept the momentum going with Luke Reynolds making 27 and Simon Tolland 45; with junior player Ben Whytcross getting the team across the finish line in the 39th over with an unbeaten 17.
Pomborneit will play in its first-ever division two grand final tomorrow against Bookaar at SA Wright Oval.
