Grand final awaits Magpies
CAMPERDOWN Magpies Bowling Club’s division one midweek pennant team has earned a spot in the grand final.

The Magpies claimed their place after defeating the highly fancied Winchelsea in last Tuesday’s second semi-final at the Cressy Bowling Club.
The Magpies led for most of the day but Winchelsea hit the front by two shots after 60 ends had been played.
After 72 of the 75 ends were played, scores were tied on 67 apiece but each of the Magpies’ three rinks held their nerve and between them scored eight shots on the last ends to run out winners, 75-67.
Peter Reilly’s rink of Barry Atchison, Vicki Brebner and Janet Molan scored four shots on their last end to defeat Pip Ward’s rink 24-22.
Maria Van Someren’s rink of Len Searle, Michael Brebner and Henry Henderson scored one shot on their last end to just go down to Rhys Jeff’s rink 18-20.
Fred Salmon’s rink of John Molan, John O’Donohue and Kell Edwards scored a three on their last end to defeat Ray Thompson’s rink 33-25.
The Magpies will now play the winner of next Tuesday’s preliminary final between Winchelsea and Colac City.

The Magpies division one Saturday pennant team was denied the double chance last Saturday when they were defeated by Colac City 86-87.
Mathew Brewer’s rink had a good win over Ken Hanson’s rink, 25-14.
Craig Skene’s rink went down to Rebecca McMahon’s 20-25.
Jason Armstrong’s rink defeated Gary Morrisy’s 24-22 and Luke Wright’s rink lost to Stewart Trigg’s 17-26.
The Magpies will now play Colac in a knockout first semi-final tomorrow at Colac City.
The teams have met twice during the season, with the Magpies winning both encounters.
Division one teams to play Colac tomorrow at Colac City:
Luke Wright (s), David Bateman, Len Searle and Kel Edwards.
Matty Brewer (s), Kev Conheady, Barry Atchison and James Henry.
Jason Armstrong (s), Tom Spokes, Chris Pearson and Jack Paasse.
Brad Errock (s), Jamie Norton, Darren Coverdale and Greg Teal.
The manager will be David Bateman and the bus will leave at 10.30am.
Camperdown Magpies division two (2) team had a close game against Apollo Bay, coming home with a 98-88 win.
Fred Salmon’s rink had a 23-21 win over Brian Kent’s rink and Peter Reilly’s rink went down to Sandra Kent’s 23-25.
Michael Brebner’s rink went down to Andrew Couch’s rink 20-22 and Paul Richard’s rink had a 32-20 win over Larry Redman’s.
The win enabled the Magpies to finish third on the ladder.
They will now play Colac in the knockout first semi-final tomorrow at Cressy.
The matches during the season have been shared, with the Magpies winning by 30 shots at Colac and losing by three at home.
Division two (2) teams for Saturday at Cressy:

Paul Richards (s), John Molan, Greg Molan and Keira Johnston.

Vicki Brebner is the manager and the bus will leave at 10.30am.
The Magpies division two (3) team had the tough task of travelling to take on top side Lorne and they had a long trip home after being defeated 116-78.
Glenn Winsall’s rink went down to Leigh McIlvernny’s rink 16-27.
Ian Henderson’s rink lost to Peter Jacobs’ rink 10-40.
Stan Adeney’s rink fought hard all day but went down to Brad Weetman’s rink 21-13.
Chris McLeod’s rink saved the day with a great 31-18 win over Paul Staley’s rink.
The season now ends for division two (3) team but they can be proud of their performance, finishing sixth on the ladder after having many changes to their rinks throughout the season.
The Magpies division three team made its way into the top four with a 30 shot win over Colac Central, 85-55.
Tom Hose’s rink went down to Ric Cheshire’s rink 13-19.
Ron Absalom’s rink had a 19-17 win over Leonard Armistead’s rink and Paul Brebner’s rink had a 28-13 win over Kevin Arundell’s rink.
Darren Page’s rink made sure the Magpies would make the four with a 25-6 win over Lynton Evans’ rink.
They will now play Simpson in the knockout first semi-final tomorrow at Cobden.
The teams have only met once this season due to a total fire ban in round 12 and Simpson won this encounter by 11 shots.
Division three teams for tomorrow at Cobden:
Tom Hose (s), Paul Halloran, Janet Molan and Donna Watts.
Darren Page (s), Peter James, Rene Wyles and Steve Lucas.
Paul Brebner (s), Sam Whytcross, Kerri Henderson and Gerard Broderick.
Ron Absalom (s), John Salau, Bert Sloetjes and Noelene Tolland.
Peter James will be the manager and skippers are to arrange cars to Cobden.
The Magpies division four team had the big job of taking on the undefeated Winchelsea.
They put up a great effort to only go down by six shots, 57-63.
Pip Robertson’s team just went down to Ross Erwin’s rink 21-24.
Carol Wilson’s team had a great battle with Ray O’Brien’s rink drawing at 16 shots each.
Gordon Weller’s rink had a close match with Colin Williams’ rink but went down 20-23.
The season now ends for division four but they too can be proud of their results and they also managed to give everyone a game of bowls each Saturday.
Midweek division two played Colac 3 at the Colac City Bowls Club in the first semi-final and came home with a well-deserved 74-45 win.
Stan Adeneys’ rink of Noel Brebner, Kerry Henderson and Noelene Tolland defeated Sofia Montano’s rink 22-19.
Ron Simcox’s rink of Brad Wilson, Pam Atchison and Les Pearson defeated Kaye Burrell’s rink 28-11.
Chris Pearson’s rink of Rene Wyles, Tim Spokes and Elaine Waterfall defeated Ed Riches’ rink 24-15.
The Magpies will now play Lorne next Tuesday to decide who will play Cressy in the grand final.

Division three took on Colac Central at the Colac Bowling Club also in the first semi-final but unfortunately were defeated 45-76.
Peter James’ rink of Gordon Weller, Val Coverdale and Deb Noonan lost 20-31.
Marg Stephens’ rink of Carol Wilson, Ruth Skene and Kathy banks lost 14-25.
Norma Weller’s rink of Donna Watts, Pat Scott and Ray Bourke were defeated 11-20.
This ends the season for midweek division three and they can also be proud of their achievements.
The semi-finals of the men’s pairs were played last Sunday morning.
Luke Wright and Mathew Brewer defeated Craig Skene and Chris McLeod.
David Bateman and Kev Conheady defeated the Winsall brothers, Glenn and Mark.
The final in the afternoon produced some fantastic bowling during the 18 ends played.
David and Kevin led by two shots going into the last end.
Luke and Matthew tried to kill the end as they were three down in the head, but unfortunately they missed and David and Kevin ran out winners, 17-12.
The ladies were at the grand final stage.
Kell Edwards and Keira Johnston took on Noelene Tolland and Elaine Waterfall.
Again some fantastic bowling was witnessed by the large crowd.
Kell and Keira got an early break and held on to that break for the rest of the match, finally winning 22-12.
A very successful first night of the Corporate Challenge was held last Monday night.
The winners were Concrete Petroleum and the runners-up, the Water Boys.
The progressive aggregate sees Weerite United leading from Ritchies Supermarket.
Raffle winners on the night were Julie Tune and Kelly Molan.
