Batting first against Carranballac at the Derrinallum Recreation Reserve, the Tigers posted 7/104 from their 40 overs, before bowling the Koalas out for just 35.

“Yeah it was a ripper outcome,” Derrinallum skipper Ned Uren said.

“We thought we were definitely a good chance to win it, but we didn't think it was going to end up like that, so it was pretty cool.”

Uren would have liked a few more batting first.

“I reckon about 130 was probably par so I think scraping through to just over a hundred, we still felt like we probably needed quick wickets and to bowl well; we knew it was defendable, we just had to bowl really well.”

Uren made 22 from 43 opening the batting, but the team collapsed to 7/54 in the 27th over.

Crucially, Hunter Thompson and Max Uren put on an unbeaten 50 for the eighth wicket.

“Those two batted really well after our big middle order collapse.

“It looked like we were going to just get rolled over there for a bit, but they put up a real fight to push out of it and at least get something on the board, which was really good.”

Thompson finished unbeaten on 21 from 44 balls, with Max Uren 22 not out from 47.

Derrinallum reduced Carranballac to 5/19, before taking the last five wickets all with the score on 35.

“We definitely started well, we knew that their top five was the key, they probably don't have as much depth as some teams.

“So we knew if we got that top five we were right in it, and it probably came a bit quicker than what we thought.”

Gurwinder Samra ripped through the top order, taking 3/8 from eight overs, with Max Uren taking 4/6 from 4.1 overs at the end.

“Samra bowled really well and got wickets when we needed him to, he got their best players out.

“Max bowled really well at the end and got most of the tail, it sort of just kept going our way.”

Derrinallum will face Linton in tomorrow’s grand final after the fourth placed team upset top placed Haddon in the other semi-final.

“We’ve got a good record against them so probably a little bit happier to be playing Linton than Haddon.

“But we’ve still got to play well because they’ve got five or six really good cricketers.”

The grand final is at the Rokewood Recreation Reserve beginning at 12pm.
