Group tees off to raise $12,000
A TEAM of local golfers has raised a staggering $12,124 to support cancer research.

The Terang Golf Club team took to the greens in Terang last Friday to complete a marathon 72-hole day of golf as part of The Longest Day fundraiser.
The Longest Day is a Cancer Council fundraiser which has seen more than 5000 golfers complete 36, 54 or 72 holes of golf in one day to raise funds – with more than $2.7 million raised this year.
The team, consisting of members Stephen Arundell, George Beasley, Phil Beasley, Riley Scanlon, Fred Beasley, Josh Brown, Caleb Kavanagh and Liam Venn, had originally set out to raise $4000 but have more than tripled the ambitious goal.
“We started at around 5.45am and everyone went pretty good,” Mr Arundell said.
“We had The Shed at Noorat donate coffees and egg and bacon rolls, and had volunteer’s drop off food.
“It was a really good day.”
Mr Arundell said the team were blown away by the support they received from the community, with both individuals and businesses throwing support behind the fundraiser.
“It’s quite amazing,” he said.
“We’ve had a lot of support from small businesses and people just throwing in bits and pieces, what they can, which is great.
“It’s a good feeling - it makes it easier to get through The Longest Day and take those last few steps.”
The fundraiser will remain open for anyone wanting to donate, but Mr Arundell said the message was far more important than raising funds.
“It’s hard this time of year for everyone,” he said.
“Even if people can’t donate, just look after each other and get yourself checked out when you can or need to because cancer sucks.”
