Trackside: A big night is planned for the Terang Harness Racing Club this Friday evening, with two of the industry’s biggest names set to lead question and answer sessions.

Terang Harness Racing Club president Chris O’Connor said a bumper night at the trots was planned.

“The evening will be free entry with dinner bookings available and a full canteen and bar service,” he said.

“We will also have a bookie on course.

“In addition, Raffertys Tavern Pick 5 jackpots to $3750.”

Mr O’Connor said the club would host question and answer sessions with Paddy Lee following the third race and Lindsay Smith after the fourth race to give racegoers the chance to hear from two of the most prominent identities in racing.

Mr Lee will kick things off talking about one of the industry’s brightest talents, the homegrown Keayang Zahara.

“She has an incredible 23 wins from 24 starts, including 12 Group One wins, and has earned $1,010,000 in stakes,” Mr O’Connor said.

Mr Smith will then speak following the fourth race, providing insight into the cultivation of one of Victoria’s top stables.

Mr Smith trained his first winner in 1993 and after many successful years training in Perth and Warrnambool before making the move to Geelong last year to access state of the art training facilities, staff, tracks, spelling and pre-training facilities and the beach.

He has trained more than 1300 winners and boasts a 17 per cent strike rate including 11 Group One winners and a further 82 Stakes winners.

Notable horses from the boutique racing stable include Old Comrade (four-time G1 winner), Old Money (G1 WATC Derby Winner), Plastered (two-time G1 winner including Victoria Derby), Scales of Justice (2 x G1 winner), Black Heart Bart and Tuvalu who have all tasted success at the highest level.
