Guides begin for 2026

CAMPERDOWN Girl Guides are gearing up for another busy year, with spots open for the next generation of guides to sign up.

The first guiding session for the year will be held on Monday, February 16, with guide leader Glenda McIlveen hoping to continue to encourage guides to try new things and challenge themselves.

“Sometimes the program depends on what the girls would like to do – I try and have a bit of a set program, but we try and do things they thought they’d always like to do and give them a try,” she said.

“I ask them to be a part of the planning.

“It’s about trying new things and seeing whether they can challenge themselves.

“Sometimes some enjoy more outdoor things and others enjoy more art and crafts activities.

“Being a part of the community and trying to be involved is important too.”

Girl guides is open to girls aged seven to 12, with families able to try three sessions at 251 Manifold Street for free to see if guides is for them.

Mrs McIlveen said guides will run from 3.30-5pm on Mondays during the school term.

“I’m still happy to pick children up from the end of school on Mondays,” she said.

“I walk up to the school and have a walking bus from the school to the hall.

“Rain or shine, we still do it.

“Any girls from over at St Patrick’s can come to the back gate at Camperdown College’s junior campus.”

For more information or to sign up, contact Mrs McIlveen on 0428 090 906 or visit www.guidesvic.org.au/join-now/join-girl-guides/.
