Guides sale has new look
THE Camperdown Girl Guides’ annual sale will look a bit different this year, with a new theme and mix of items.
The Girl Guides will be holding a Children’s Market on Saturday, October 19, which will look different from its previous annual garage sale.
Ruth Barber, who has children in the group, said the idea behind the market was to “mix it up” with a specific audience and encouraging community members to hold stalls themselves.
“The stall fee and what the guides do on the day will go towards running cost to keep the hall going so the community can have somewhere to hire for birthday parties and community events or meetings,” she said.
“We just want to keep the hall vibrant and somewhere for people to use.
“We welcome stallholders still – it closes this week, but we’re still open to take some stallholders.
“Anyone who’s got new children’s ware or gifts, but also people trying to clean out their cupboards.”
Stallholders are encouraged to reach out to Bec Fleming on 0402 106 212 to book a site, with a site fee of $25 and an extra $5 for the hire of a table if required.
The market will run from 10am-2pm and will include a variety of children’s activities.
Mrs Barber said there will be a variety of stalls and items for sale at the market, with a mix of indoor and outdoor sites.
“On the day, we’ve got clothing, we’ve got Wondersand with their sensory items, and we’ve got people with children’s gifts like bibs,” she said.
“We’ve also got drink bottles, Wild Flower creations, we’ve also got the Nature Bus, and wooden toys,
“The guides will be doing a barbecue, cake stall, and they’ll have a little stall as well.
“At this stage, we’ll have a raffle running.
“We want to create an atmosphere.”
Mrs Barber said funds raised through the stall fees and sales from the Guide-run stalls will go towards the running costs of the Camperdown Guide Hall.
“The hall is here for the community, because hiring the hall helps us too,” she said.
“We’re encouraging any girls aged 7-12 to come along – the guides are here.
“The leaders are looking for new members next year.”
Kylie Spokes said the market was one of the important fundraisers to help the guides continue to run.
“It’s very difficult to work on projects to improve the hall or provide extra opportunities for the guides when we need to constantly fundraise to keep the roof over our heads,” she said.
“It’s aimed at children’s activities, but some stalls will have things for all ages.
“It will be a mix of new and used items.”
The market will be held at the Camperdown Guide Hall, located at 251 Manifold Street, Camperdown.
